We have installed numerous apps and games on our PC. We operate them when we are free, or we want to have some fun. But when the same apps and games send you several notifications while working, your mind gets distracted. That is why it is essential to know about the feature which can save you from diverting your mind from your task until you get it completed.

In windows 10, there is a feature named Focus Assist. The focus assist is the best feature to use when working, and you don’t want interruptions from your computer. It gives you the flexibility to choose whenever you wanna block interruptions. If you don’t want any distractions like notifications from the apps, any sounds, or the alerts, you can turn on the focus assist. It will give you full time to focus on your work.

Suppose you need to have notifications from the essential apps. In that case, you can make one priority list and tell focus assist not to include that particular software or apps, so you can know the important notifications which are useful for you even when you are working. If you don’t want any information, you can block all the reports.

After completing your work, you can see all the notifications and alerts you have missed while you were busy finishing your task. You can see them later when you get free so that you can know what you have missed. You can catch up on everything quickly as all the notifications and alerts appear on your screen when you all focus on letting them show to you.

Enable the focus assist

The first thing you should know before you move further is how you can enable the focus assist. To take advantage of the feature first, you need to know you can turn it on. Without turning it on, you cannot use the focus assist. There are two ways to enable the focus assist. 

One way to turn on the focus assist is by clicking on the Action Center. In the Action center, you need to go to the Quick Action button to turn on and off the toggle switch of focus assist. Enable the focus assist if you want to use the feature.

The second method you can use is to go into the settings. Tap on the System option. Now, go to the Focus Assist tab. In the Focus Assist section, you can on, and off the feature anytime you want. You can choose Priority only option as well, where you can customize your priority list as in which apps’ notifications you want when you have turned on the focus assist.

How to configure your priority list

When you choose the Priority list option, you will get the Customize the priority list. You have to click on that to make the list of the apps and notifications, sounds, or alerts you want while working and have enabled the focus assist feature. 

On the priority list window, under the Calls, texts, and reminders, the options like “Show incoming VoIP calls and calls from a linked phone,” “Show incoming text from a linked phone,” and “Show reminders, regardless of the app used” is enabled by default.

How to configure your priority list

In the next section, there is the People tab. Under the section named People, you have to choose which contacts have priority access. Check the “Show notifications from pinned contacts on taskbar” option. You can now click on the Add contacts button and choose the contacts you want in your priority list.

Next, it is an App section on the priority list window. You need to choose the priority apps for you and from whom you want to get a notification even if you are working and you have turned on the focus assist.

Enable focus assist on a Schedule

By enabling the focus to assist on a schedule, you can automatically turn on the feature according to your team. If you know in a particular period, you will be busy, and you don’t want any interruption at that time. You can schedule the time of focus assist, so it turns on automatically at that period. 

It would help if you went to the Automatic rules section of the Focus Assist tab. In Automatic rules, set the schedule in the option of “During these times.” Turn on the toggle switch of the option and set the time which is preferable to you. You can switch on and off the toggle of Alarms only and Priority only. It is up to you how many notifications you wish to have when you have turned on the Focus assist. You can choose any option you want for your choice.

You can check the option “Show me a summary of what I missed while the focus assist was on” if you want to see the notifications later when you are done with your work and want to see which alerts you have missed. 

When you play the game, that time you hate the interruptions. Whenever any notification, sound, or alerts happen when you are playing the game, you get distracted and lose the game. It is better to turn on the Focus assist option when you are playing the game.

On the Playing a game full-screen Window, you can turn on the toggle switch of the option “Turn this on to hide notifications when you are playing a full-screen DirectX game” option. After you enable the option, you will never get any notification while using the game.

You can choose the option from the drop-down menu of the Focus level. You can select Priority only, where you will get the notifications that have been set on the priority list.
